IPS 2007

Notice all abstract contributors:
All the abstracts that have been submitted for oral presentation have been accepted as oral presentations. Each contributed presentation will be exactly 10 minutes long, with an additional 2 minutes for questions. Session chairpersons will strictly enforce the time limits in order to enable ample presentation of all oral contributions.
In order to accommodate all contributed presentations, the parallel sessions have been extended from 90 minutes to 105 minutes, so the meeting will end at 18:30. Please see the program page for details

The 53rd annual meeting of the Israel Physical Society will be held on Dec. 9th at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot.

We have an exciting program, featuring plenary talks by Robert Laughlin from Stanford University, co-recipient of the 1998 Physics Nobel Prize, Edward Shuryak, director of the Center for Nuclear Theory, SUNY, USA and Uri Sivan, director of the Russell Berrie Nanotechnology Institute at the Technion, Israel.

The emphasis of the parallel sessions this year will be on student participation. We intend to provide a platform for graduate students to present their work to all members of the physics community in Israel and to their peers in
particular. Our intention is that every grduate student who is
interested will have the opportunity to present a short talk on his, or her, research topic.

We therefore encourage each and every one of you to submit your work for presentation in the meeting. While we will still have plenary and tutorial talks, and a small number of invited talks given by established researchers, the bulk of the conference will comprise short, 10-12 minutes presentation in focused topic sessions. In
addition to providing a vital arena for students, we are certain that such a format will allow all of us to become more familiar with the work done in our research area in Israel. A few selected students will be awarded the Israel Physical Society prize.
