My research in theoretical astrophysics
focuses on studies of high energy phenomena around black holes.
I am currently developing a model for formation of supermassive black holes via direct collapse of gas.
In am especially interested in the special configuration in which a black hole accretes from a hydrostatic envelope.
In addition, I am studying --analytically and numerically-- the possible electromagnetic signals associated with the
balck hole recoil at merger. Here you can find some movies.
This is of course important to maximize the potential of future gravitational wave observations of merging systems.
I am also interested in the physics of accretion discs, and how their micro-physical properties relate to
the global process of accretion of matter.
Finally, I am applying a newly developed analytic methods to study stellar dynamical processes in the vicinity of the black hole at the Galactic Centre. The results will be applied to understand observations of hypervelocity stars and of the stellar population in the Galactic Centre.
